It's one thing to look outwards, to look beyond the end of your nose and see what is happening in the world, trying to keep up and stay informed.
One of the traps that I fall into is doom scrolling the news and so I'll have a different app, a different newspaper, a different source of news, and I'll convince myself that it's a good thing, that I'm well informed, that I understand current affairs until I realise I'm spending far, far too long continually repeating, looking at the headlines, checking for the news, making sure they're up to date, feeling wronged or wondering what's wrong with the world and why it's so bad and then feeling sad.
And so, it's a balance, as all of these things are balanced, to spend a little bit of time learning, a little bit of time seeing, a little bit of time taking information from carefully curated sources (that's one of the most important things) and then spend the rest of the time doing, implementing and applying the information you've received otherwise we end up running as fast as we can to keep up and continually running faster and faster and faster and then… broken.
All of a sudden, we realise we're a hamster and we go faster and faster on the wheel, only to look left and to look right on our wheel and realise that what we're trying to do is go faster than the other hamsters.
Better to be outside the cage completely than to be a hamster at all.
