And… It's a test, isn't it? The snow day.
So last night was the 18th of November; it was a Monday, just like, you know, like a Monday night.
For reasons that don't need to really be explained here, we were all sat in the living room with the log burner on (super heavy middle class). Grace was working on a laptop, Alison was working on hers, and I was working on mine.
I took my little puppy, who's been with us for about 12 weeks, outside to see if he would pee, and it just started to snow a little bit.
I came back and told everybody back we went again.
We were working and distracted, and suddenly, it was 11:30, and I had to take him back out again; as I looked out the window, everything was covered in snow.
I love the snow; it makes me excited. It's new, fresh, and just a brilliant thing.
If ever I wake up (and it's rare) and there is unexpected snow, it fills me with joy.
I've always said and will always say that my happy place is lying in bed with Alison while it's snowing outside.
And so, I think snow days are a test because there are some people who are miserable when they see the snow.
It's different if you're scared; being scared of the snow, scared of falling over, scared of being trapped is one thing, but just being miserable about, you know, for miserable sake, well, that's miserable.
And so, I took Dave out at 11:30, clear sky, moonlight, a beautiful night, and he discovered snow for the first time.
I will never forget introducing Dave, the dog, to snow. I remember introducing Nelly, the dog, to snow, Isla, the dog, to snow, and my children to the snow.
If we can continue to see the world with curiosity like this, with excitement about things that happen around us, not a video of snow, but actually of being in the snow, of throwing snowballs up in the air to a young puppy dog who's never seen snow before and watching him try to catch them in his mouth with excitement, there's not a tonne better than that, is there? Not really.
If it had never snowed on the 18th of November 2024, I probably would never have remembered it because it did, and because I wrote about it here, the likelihood is that I'll never forget it.
