The secret in the vision thing

I've started a new book recently.

It's to do with giving up; I was quite interested.

The lady who writes it was a high flyer, journalist, ultra-marathon runner, all that stuff.

She burned out, as so many of them/us do.

The problem is that she was chasing something and she wasn't quite sure what it was, so there's only so much time you can put so much of your life into something before you realise it doesn't actually exist.

The secret with vision is having a vision.

It sounds simple and reasonable, but there are very, very few people I meet who actually have that clear in their life.

Worth spending a little bit of time on that, I think.

Once you have the vision, then you can put in the action, but as always, putting in the action without the vision is a finite game which comes crashing down at the end, almost all of the time.

Back in the day, when I got diagnosed with my thyroid disease, and I was trying to go and ride the Haute Route 5-day event in the Pyrenees, Alex supported me through that when no one could see. In the lead-up, he even pushed me up a hill.

He wrote a blog after that, which I've kept, and I'll never publish it because I don't have guest bloggers here - sorry.

But I remember it, and I remember it well, and so what he said at the end of that was chapeau, and that is what cyclists say to each other out of respect, and when they are impressed.

So, chapeau, Alex.
