From time to time I look outside of where I work.
Not to the people that I’m inspired by or I’m friendly with or who have helped me throughout my career, I look to them a lot.
No, this is a different type of looking.
I’m drawn to the opposite of those people above and to the ones whose values I don’t seem to share and who don’t share mine.
Generally, when that happens it’s when I’m at my worst (not my best) and then it makes me anxious that I’m missing the boat or that my ‘strategy’ is wrong or that ‘we’re all going to die’.
And then I realise that I’m off the mission.
And I realise that I set the mission a long time ago and there’s no reason for me to change it now.
And then I get back to working on the mission.
To have a guiding principle, a light that you’re heading towards is perhaps the only way to survive the now (almost overwhelming), pull away from the path you wish to take.
