The problem for Goldilocks.
Was that the porridge was too cold. It had probably been hot enough. In fact, at one point, probably too hot.
But it had been left got to the just right bit, but nobody had got it and then become too cold.
The next one was too hot. She had just waited for a little while with that one. It would have been just right.
The final one was just right. But just because she got there at the right time.
A little while before, it would have been too hot. And then afterwards too cold. And this is the problem, isn't it?
Some people manage to simmer their “porridge”, all the time, bubbling along at the right temperature brackets, (seemingly at least).
While most of the rest of us flip between heating up our porridge till it's too hot. Then reaching a situation where it's just right for a short while before it becomes too cold. And then probably overheating it again, trying to get it just right.
But this is the game, is it not?
Not the actual heating or the cooling or the getting to the middle bit. But just understanding that that is the way it is.Understanding that we have no right for everything to be “just right” all the time. It's why we should embrace those times a little bit, but not clench, as the Buddhists say.
You can't keep hold of wonderful. It passes; otherwise, it wouldn't be wonderful. It would just be normal.
And so, looking forward to the things you look forward to. And working hard through the things that you have to. It's actually what we're here for. It's actually what makes it better.
When we understand that there is no mythical “just right” we can get to all the time.
We have a much better chance of staying away from the bear.
