Spent the early part of this week at the Commonwealth Games with my daughter, Grace and her fiancée, Cal.
It was a joy.
I had to sacrifice 2 sessions to fly to Bristol to speak on the Extreme Business Group Friday (that was also a great trip), but the trip to the Commonwealth was outstanding.
I've been to a few of these things now, particularly with Grace, who loves it, and what I love about this is the smell of success.
Most of the people who compete at these games are not wealthy in any way (that's not true); they have massive biological wealth.
The fitness and exuberance and enthusiasm these people support is extraordinary; if you take the swimmers, for example, none of these guys are going to be rich (at least not yet).
What they have, though, is a platform for success moving forward; they have health and attitude and dedication. It’s hard not to believe that many of these guys are going to move on to become hugely successful in whatever part of their life they choose to go in because of the foundations that they've created now.
Success in arenas like this translates; it's like the lady said to the dwarf in Lord of the Rings, “Gold will run through your fingers, but over you, gold will have no dominion”.
