The Collective

I went to see Rudimental with Alison at Rock City some years ago. I mostly turned up for Bloodstream, and I wrote a blog about it because we were late, and we walked straight in when the rudimental version of Bloodstream started to play. It was a joy, a moment I'm talking about here in a blog even years after.

Rudimental are a collective; they are a collected together group of people with different talents and skills; they are greater than the sum of their parts, and oh my God, are they greater than the sum of their parts.

That's the secret, isn't it?

It's the secret with teams and organisations and projects and life really, bringing together the right people in the right place as a collective, all pulling in the right direction, heading towards the same goals or ideas, that's where the joy is, there are so many advantages to that.

It generally makes things easier, and it's generally much, much more fun to be with a group of people than on your own for most things; when you get it right, it achieves extraordinary results and is fulfilling and satisfying, even wholesome.

And so when you're starting something out, think about the collective, think about how you're going to build the collective where people have the same values as you are heading in the same direction; it makes everything easier, makes everything go swimmingly, makes it fun.
