In case I haven't mentioned this before in the 4200 or so blogs, my wife is extraordinary, her name is Alison.

I tell her (all the time) that she is the most practically intelligent person I've ever met. I think she thinks that's an insult of some sort, but it really isn't.

Alison knows exactly how to live life well and properly, and it's extraordinary to watch. She hardly ever wastes a minute, and she's busy doing something of purpose, almost 24 hours a day.

There is an art in this, in spending your life wisely, in achieving what you want to achieve by understanding how to look after yourself at the same time. Alison is the ultimate expert in this area.

As I've said before many times here, you can only be busy 24 hours a day; no one can be busier than that, but busy doesn't mean doing stuff all the time; it means living your life with purpose.

Some of the 24 hours will be sleeping, some of it will be showering, some of it will be eating (and preparing food), some of them will be working, some of them will be exercising, some of them will be spending time with people you love, some of them might be spending time yourself.

The truth is, though, the only way we get to the point of practical intelligence, genius like Alison, is to think clearly about what we're doing. Some people find it instinctive (Alison does), other people have to work hard at it (Colin does) but understanding that it is a thing and that you have a choice in how you live your life and how you spend your time, particularly when you live in the western world, is an astonishing realisation.

You don't have to surround yourself with d*cks, it's possible to decide to spend your life in another way.
