Seth’s Lizard Brain

Written by Colin Campbell | 04/07/18 17:00

Years ago he wrote about this - I read it, thought it sunk in but I never listened.

Godin calls it the ‘lizard brain’ and it’s the psychological barrier, the restriction that holds you back from doing the right thing.

It creates the counter intuitive.

It makes it easier, seem better, seem like the correct thing to do the wrong thing.

For me, it’s always related to lifestyle.

The lizard brain always tells me just to sit down, relax, eat chocolate and watch a movie when the best thing for me is to just get up, get out and go.

My training, my exercise regime frustrates the life out of me about 80% of the time.

My wife will question regularly why I bother because it depresses and upsets me that I don’t get the things done that I want and mostly that’s because of lizard brain.

On days like today, when I pushed it aside and went and did my thing, I know it’s the right thing to do and I know I’m in touching distance of something brilliant but it just seems so hard to grab and keep it.

You will have one. You will have a lizard brain. It will hold you back and stop you doing the things you want to do to be better at the things you want to be better at.

It will whisper in your ear, tell you that you’re not good enough, tell you that you’re finished or that there’s no point in starting.

We have to dance with it, front up and face it out.

Maybe in three months time I’ll be writing about how this was the first day of the rest of my life!
