So, the AI that I'm using on a day-to-day basis at the moment is Chat GPT (GPT-4) and Plaud in the form of the Plaud device that I use for recording meetings (I'll use that twice today) and Perplexity for research.
I'm paying for Chat GPT, and I'm paying a little bit for Plaud; I'm not paying for Perplexity yet, but I am interested in looking at it, exploring these things, and seeing how they come into my life.
But I'm saying please every time I ask.
There is a great line on this by a comedian who talks about saying please so that when the AI takes over, it will remember who was polite to it (Probably not a bad shout).
But there's another imperative to say please to AI, right? It's that it continues the habit of saying please to everyone else.
In a world where we message people without punctuation, without any consideration of what used to be important in spelling, we teach ourselves that the shortest amount of personal interaction is acceptable because it's 'efficient' or 'time-effective'.
The real truth is that day by day, drip by drip, chip by little chip, all of the human pleasantries are removed.
If I can just speak to a machine to get what I want, why shouldn't I be able to do that with a human?
Let's continue to use our technology to make us more human; let's be more human, not less human.
Your unique selling proposition may soon be that you are human and you're not using AI.
