In a world where everything is portable and consumable and instant and available, making yourself ‘sticky’ and hard to leave might turn out to be a crucial element of successful business moving forwards.
Constantly be chasing new business is exhausting but to build trust within your client group so that they return to you because the choice to go somewhere else is just unthinkable is a really important thing to do.
That would involve trust and keeping your promise and delighting people. It would mean that if they did decide that they’re towing the water in another pond, that pond might not seem quite as nice as the pond that they’ve come from and then they would come back and tell others not to leave and to come back as well.
In the world of dentistry that seems like small numbers because it’s not the same as buying cans of coke or building software.
But we are, above all else, a relationship business.
The time it takes to build the trust that is required to have a business where people find it hard to leave is long and hard and exhausting.
But that is the work, the rest of it is fishing in a pond the same as everybody else using the same tools and hooks and lines and hoping you get enough to eat.
