On not having the legs

Written by Colin Campbell | 27/07/19 17:00

So, I’ve been watching the tour and listening to the podcasts for the past two and half weeks and it always fascinates me.

Despite the best preparation the greatest understanding of one of the most brutal physical challenges on earth, every rider, still has a “bad day”.

Don’t get me wrong, a bad day in Garaint Thomas’ terms is the best day in the world that I could ever imagine, beyond imagination, but it is still a bad day for him.

Millions of pounds are spent on these riders, to get them to the right stage and the right phase.

To get their tactics right, their nutrition right and their equipment right and yet still, they talk about "not having the legs" in interviews, not having the legs?! you better find your legs! But what does this go to show us?

No matter how good you are, and no matter how much resources you have, there are still bad days and still good days.

It might do us well to remember that.

When we are mired in our own little mundane lives, not being celebrities and just trying to get through the day.
