My daft 12 days of Xmas - Part 1: Oliver Burkeman

And so, this year over the Christmas period, when absolutely nobody wants to read blogs about anything and they just want to be ramming a little bit more Christmas chocolate or red wine or whatever your poison is down your throat, here are some easy things that you could read or keep up with or maybe even encourage you to try something you haven't done or to look at something you haven't seen things that have affected me really positively over this year or even a couple of years before, stuff that I've reflected on recently, I wanted to think about again.

So, through these 12 days, we'll do four books and four gigs and four films: things that I've been to, things that I've seen, things that have inspired me that may inspire you too.

Number one will be Oliver Burkeman; he will probably appear here several times.

I can't remember when I was introduced to Oliver Burkeman or his other books, but I follow him on his newsletter, which you can get here and subscribe to; it's one of those beautiful newsletters that only comes every so often, so I look forward to it, it's not like a chore to try and read every day (as it probably is for this blog). 

And so when it comes in, I always have time for it, and it always impacts me positively, but the most important thing to come out of his newsletter was his latest book, Meditations for Mortals, which you can buy here.

It's not about meditating; it's about thinking about things and how you might make it better and how you might slow down and, how you may be kinder to yourself and how you might realise there is no chance you'll ever get done with your to-do list.

It's so good, in fact, that I will 1000% be repeating it during my sabbatical in January so that I can re-cement the lessons that I managed to integrate into my life when I read it and then forget almost instantaneously when I went through a busy period.

It's like a little Bible; it's one of those books that I'll pick up and come back to time and time again, and I honestly promise that you should do it, too.

Try it for January when the nights are dark and the moods are down, it'll make you feel better.
