Lollipop lane

Written by Colin Campbell | 14/02/21 18:00

The streetlights are made of lollipops, the houses are made of dairy milk bricks and coke zero flows out of the tap where you want it.

You can eat as much Five Guys as you like, and you’ll never get fat and the sun always shines and it doesn’t melt the chocolate.

You’re gorgeous on lollipop lane, all of the time; from the minute you wake until you fall asleep.

You’re exactly the shape you always wanted to be, every single minute.

Everyone loves you there, no matter what you say or think, and you can have everything now!

Lollipop lane lives in a book or on a social media platform, for all of us to chase if we choose.

I think the social media influencers live there and probably KSI, next door are the Beckhams and maybe Ronaldo and obviously Tom Cruise across the street.

For the rest of us, the gates are shut tight to lollipop lane and we only get to look in as spectators.

For one in a billion, you might fall down a rabbit hole or through a looking glass or even through a wardrobe and find yourself on the other side of the gate living there.

For everyone else heaven is right here, right now, every single minute.

Like Philip Pullman said in His Dark Materials trilogy, you get to construct the republic of heaven right here (if you want).

Outside of the Garden of Eden and lollipop lane there is disease and hurt and pain and bad luck.

There is challenge and difficulty but there is beauty and joy everywhere.

We have to try harder to stop looking at lollypop lane because it’s one of those very special things that doesn’t exist unless we look towards it.

Once we look away we see the beauty everywhere else, as it disappears behind us.
