(Sadly, and perhaps these are the ramblings of an old cynical man who has seen too much and hurt too often).
We seem to live in a world where no one cares what they look like or what they sound like or what people think.
I think it used to be the case that social norms held us in check from being seen as the horrible and nasty individual that we might be inside on some occasions, yet manage to hold that side of us back because it’s just not right to show it.
We’ve been let into peoples houses in ways we’ve never done before and I was involved in a Zoom consultation with a patient recently when their partner started speaking to them in a way which I could hardly believe.
I’m talking about an individual who is in the worst sort of trouble and is asking for help and I’m trying everything I can to navigate an extraordinarily catastrophic schedule to assist in some way or another before a deadline runs out.
The partner of the individual I was speaking to was quite happy to talk to them in a way which was utterly outrageous while I was on the screen.
Everything in me wanted to shout “would you kiss your mother with that mouth?” But sadly I can’t fix everything.
