In the olden days

In the olden days we sat together and talked about things.

In my work, we discussed cases together and how best to proceed and when we had problems we chatted.

Everything now is electronically passed and labelled and tagged and has material in it for us to look at and consider.

Very few people nowadays have the time or inclination to sit together, face-to-face with a cup of something hot and talk through a problem.

Unfortunately, now the powers that be tell us that if we do that we have to type it out and write it down and record it.

We lost something special then - creative work and creative minds working together to find a solution they felt was best.

It’s still possible to work this way but you have to have some systems in place to also make it look like you’re working the way ‘they’ want.

I didn’t realise I would get to the stage where I was one of the old guys, thinking about how it was better before.

I just can’t help but think that still ‘all problems exist in the absence of a good conversation’ and a good conversation isn’t held over electronic media.
