Impossible to meet

Which is the best standard to set?

Number one: something generic, basic, at a relatively low level, so that everyone can manage it easily, and no one is ever ‘disappointed’.

Or,

Number two: standard that's so high that it's difficult for us all to reach, that we aspire to, that we run at every single day, understanding that now and again we won't quite make it, but we're trying to make it with a smile on our face.

This will delight many more people than number one, but 1 or 2 people will be disappointed when we fail to meet the standard that is so high that we set.

What do we do then?

We encourage the people for whom we seek to serve to feed back. You can call it a complaint, or you can call it constructive criticism, or you can call it feedback.

You should accept it gratefully if your standards are as high as that, and there is no other way to 'win' than to set your standards as high as that.
