False summits

Written by Colin Campbell | 26/05/21 17:00

Countless times I can remember on a bike, turning a corner or cresting a hill, only to see there was a bigger hill in front of me.

We always called it a false summit, thinking that you’ve made it and then realising that you’ve got at least as much work again to get to the next one which might be another false summit.

We ‘crest over the summit’ throughout out lives in the things that we try to achieve, only to find that we’re not finished yet.

It’s ok though because the journey that we’re all on is about striving for the summit, not really reaching it.

It’s about understanding that the finish line is further away than you thought it was and part of the game is to push the finish line further on again.

Once you aim for the highest peak and then get anywhere near, you usually realise that it wasn’t high enough.
