The metaphors are everywhere, eggs to be cracked to make omelettes, or dragons to be slain.
You have to slay a few dragons in order to find your princess, and you have to crack a few eggs in order to make your omelette, and these projects take time.
Almost 7 years ago, I offered 2 separate people a job at The Campbell Clinic. One was for soon; one was for later.
The soon one never took the job, they thought they were too good to come here. I've watched her career trajectory, and I think it might have been a mistake. I think they might have thought it was a mistake, too.
The second one was a long-term project; we talked, kept in touch, and watched each other's development. Today, we had a serious conversation about them coming to work here, and I think, I hope they will. Without a shadow of a doubt, this individual will be ‘cut me down the middle, and I'm Campbell Clinic’. That is someone worth waiting for.
Sometimes you win, and sometimes you lose, but if you stick to your values, and on balance, you'll probably win just a little bit more than you lose, and if you do that for long enough, you'll win a lot.
