Digital fentanyl

I read recently in the massive discussion in America now about the toxicity of TikTok and how it seems to be a threat to national security, as people are now waking up to the fact that it's basically owned by the Chinese government, that Mike Gallagher, a Republican representative in the House of Representatives, described TikTok as digital fentanyl.

I think Mr Gallagher is mistaken in describing TikTok as digital fentanyl.

I don't think his description is broad enough.

It's been clear to many for a number of years that the curse of social media and the supercomputer in your pocket is digital fentanyl for most of the population.

Much has been made of this, many parodies constructed.

Think of the first Kingsman movie, if you've seen it.

I remember reading, some years ago, Mylo Xyloto, the original Coldplay written comic book series that the album was based on where humans were given the feed, which was effectively a box over the top of their head, which streamed digital information to them 24/7 to keep them quiet and keep them suppressed.

Sound familiar?

Sound like digital fentanyl?

If you Google fentanyl side effects, they're awful, including loss of consciousness and unsteadiness, ringing in the ears, lack of concentration, clumsiness and various other terrible things.

It seems like the side effects of actual fentanyl are not an awful lot different from the side effects of digital fentanyl.
