Asleep at the wheel

Comfort kills, and only the paranoid survive.

If you want a metaphor for this, think of TikTok or vapes.

Before TikTok arrived in the United Kingdom, we had a chance for it not to be here; we could have stopped it, banned it, decided not to have it.

Then we allowed the Chinese government to own a social media platform that poisoned our children.

That's not to say we weren't poisoning our children with other social media before this, but at least it felt like we had some more control.

Then think about vapes.

We never used to have vapes, and nicotine-free vapes to teach our children how to vape before they had nicotine vapes when they were later.

Electronic cigarettes could have been stopped before they started, but we decided not to.

In so many aspects of society, in so many aspects of life, we're asleep at the wheel.

The cultural or ethical drift just drips, drips, drips, and then we're f**ked.

We lost the ability to be vigilant, I think, but we need to get that back.

We need to get it back in our parenting. We need to get it back in our businesses. We need to get it back in the way we look after our lives.

We're not supposed to be comfortable all the time; that's not normal. We just told ourselves a story that that was normal.
