I don't think I was ever taught to say sorry as a child.
I think I had to learn as I went along, but I think I have it now.
The best way to apologise is as follows:
I'm sorry.
It's not I'm sorry, but… it's I'm sorry.
I'm sorry but is something other than an apology something less warm, something less effective, something less.
