Remind Me....

There's a song by Tom Grennan called Remind Me; you might know it, but if you don't, there's a YouTube clip of the video here.

It’s a beautiful story about a couple who have drifted apart, and they're trying to discuss with each other what the words were to their song that they've both forgotten, asking each other to remind each other of the words to that song.

Obviously, it's a metaphor for relationships getting older and the people drifting apart. It's about making the effort to come back together and find the things that we have in common.

It's one of my go-to songs because I think it's a beautiful lesson to learn, not just about being married, or being a parent or a friend, but being kind to yourself.

There's a version of me that I imagine that I would like to be, but one that I can never quite grasp and never quite get to, and then all of a sudden I get distracted with things related to my life, some of the things that I shouldn't be paying attention to.

At stages like that, it's important for me to try to find the space, the time to just step outside of myself for a minute and remind myself of who it is that I'm trying to be or what was important to me, most important to me.

I’m trying to build a structure, tools, tricks, hooks to remind me of where I'm supposed to be going, because every so often (in fact, all the time) I get knocked off course by other people's agendas.

Back to it now, focus, focus.

All of the stuff that's going on in the world around me, it's almost impossible to influence. The only thing I can do is here, in front of me, and be the best version of myself that it's possible to be (which is always a million miles from perfect).
