I am generation X

Written by Colin | 14/12/15 18:00

I am the typical generation X.

Born in 1972 smack bang in the middle of all measurements of where generation X is (classically 1965 - 1985).

Generation X is The Sex Pistols, Punk Rock, New Order, Joy Division, New Wave, Live Aid, Queen at Wembley, The Jam, The Style Council, yuppies, old Porsche 911, The Cold War, the threat of Nuclear War, the miners strike, the recession, taking a mince pie to my Grandmother's house once a week because they couldn't afford to eat, Thatcher, Mexico 1986.

We were shaped by the things that happened in our formative years, we resent(ed) the baby boomers and their time and their wealth.

We live in classic time famine.

The biggest issue with generation X is that we always now have our nose to the grindstone. We complain we have no time but in fact we choose to have no time. We try to create what we saw the baby boomers had and it is and was impossible to recreate.

We had a real sense of injustice, a wish to change the world for the better, first for diversity and equality and inclusion... and we failed.

It's not too late for generation X. Most of us occupy the plot between 35 and 55 so we have the influence and we have the money, all we need to do is create the time.
