The CQC vs Oftsed

In part of my life outside dentistry I am vice chair of my children's school’s board of Governors and the Chairman of the committee involved with teaching standards.

It is with interest therefore, that we begin to plan for an imminent Ofsted in the first half of this year and I am staggered with the similarities with our CQC inspections (we have had 2 at 2 practices) It does actually seem that there is a cookie cutting machine in Whitehall designed to produce as much over regulation as possible which is passed out to schools, healthcare institutions and I am sure many other places including financial services. In essence, both CQC and Ofsted require self evaluation which is then spot-checked on an inspection basis.

If you can justify your self-evaluation, you are deemed to be competent and pass the test. I knew the CQC would be good for something and it was basically teaching me to be a Governor at my children’s school.
