This is a theme that I might return to in later blogs in discussion of what a team should look like and how they should behave. I was once again dazzled at an airport as I have been in recent times at a hotel by the staff of Emirates airlines.
Queuing at passport control at Birmingham airport on return from a brilliant trip to Barcelona, the entire flight crew of an Emirates double decker airbus strolled past. They look amazing. Matching shoes and bags and pristine in their outfits. The same suitcase - the same swagger - the confidence and belief in themselves. It's my belief that the aircrew from Emirates airlines have probably sold more tickets than any amount of advertising. They made me want to be on an Emirates plane.
Interestingly though as an aside, there was one lady dressed in exactly the same gear but all black - I would guess that she's the boss!! But that's not the point.
The point is that these ladies struck the line between confidence and arrogance. So sure of what they do and the superiority of their organisation that their confidence is massive.
I guess to have a team as 'on brand' and as good as that is to tread a fine line between confidence and arrogance.
Probably a risk worth taking for a team that good though.
