Bradley Wiggins
My time
Inevitable that I would read this book due to my interests in previous blogs posts but it was time to get to the Bradley Wiggins autobiography, which was written and published late in 2012 (just in time for Christmas)
There are indeed some autobiographies, which are pushed out very quickly in time for Christmas in a year when a sporting hero has excelled. Generally those books are of poor quality, have little substance and are purely a cash cow and money-making machine.
This is not one of those books.
This is a passionate book which gives a great insight into what is required to win the most grueling endurance event in the world and to do it as a clean athlete. It tracks the highs and lows of Wiggins’ pursuit of a yellow jersey with just enough detail for a cycling fan to appreciate but probably little enough detail for anyone else to enjoy. It goes into great detail about how Wiggins feels about drug taking and drug takers and, in particular, Lance Armstrong where he say’s “Armstrong can get f@^*$ed”
It explains how you have to eat as a cyclist, how you have to live and train and the impact it has on a family with 2 young children in it.
Amazing story, great book for anybody into cycling but also anybody into sport.
