On the last Year Implant course blog which you can read here  we talked about the launch of the 2018 Year Implant course. In this one I just wanted to expand a little bit further into what we do on these courses and why we think its special.

The Year Implant course provided by The Campbell Academy is 12 days and these are separated over different modules. Generally the modules are two days each, but there are one or two 1 day modules. The course is set out specifically to teach guys to become competent in the selection, assessment and execution of straight forward implant cases in the real world. We touch on many aspects of implant dentistry but essentially the assessment process is key, including assessment of patients medical histories and radiographic assessment (this is provided by Michael Bornstein).

We then move on to the surgical aspects of implant dentistry including basic surgical skills. This is carried out on pigs heads and then reinforced through the practical and clinical sessions later on in the course with advice given to individual delegates for areas of basic surgical skills that they could improve one.

The surgical aspects really come to ahead when delegates place implants under supervision at the practice, generally on there own patients that they have selected and assessed in there own practices under mentoring situations as part of the course.

Following that we then move on to the restorative treatment phase and the delegates will restore the implants that they placed within the practice under supervision. We encourage the placement of these restorations on as many implants as possible during the course.

Intersperse through this, marketing aspects to assist you in selecting patients for dental implants within your own practicing environment and as much advice as you need in any aspect.

There is a wonderful online discussion platform that delegates really get involved in and share cases, successes, triumphs and disasters together for general group learning.

The course runs January to October and there is a fantastic course dinner which is held at The Campbell Clinic Ball in November were delegates receive their certificates.

This course is designed to be the start of a journey to good, it’s a five year process to get through the straight forward and manage complex learning aspects of implant dentistry for most people.

If your placing implants at a low level and you want to reinforce your skills, or if you want to start out, if you’re a newly qualified dentist, an experienced associate or a practice owner who wants to reinvigorate there clinical practice, this may well be the course for you.
