You know how it feels in the week running up to Christmas: the customers are generally really happy, the team are generally really happy, you are generally contented, even if there is a little bit of a scramble to finish to get things done, but really, no one can p*ss you off too much.
It's nice; you're tolerant, accepting, and really pleased that people are having some downtime, which will make them a little bit better when they return next year.
Wouldn't it be great if we could look at our teams and look after our teams with that attitude 52 weeks of the year?
It probably won't feel like that in January, but maybe it could.
I was always reminded of the fact that when I went to the London 2012 Olympics to watch the basketball at the Millennium Dome, it was absolutely extraordinary.
The transport was amazing, the Games Makers were amazing, they were happy, they were brilliant, they were helpful, the crowd was amazing, no trouble, no difficulty, everybody in a party atmosphere we funnelled in, we funnelled out there were plenty of trains.
It's not like that now getting to Millennium Dome. Something got in the way.
It is possible to imagine better, it's possible to be a better boss, it's possible to take a little bit off the bottom, the bit that you get and make it a lot better for the people that you look after and if you do that generally, everything feels like the week before Christmas.
