I rewatched Ocean’s Eleven recently with my family.

There is that bit in the film where Andy Garcia comes down the stairs in the hotel and they describe what his day is like and for a moment I thought ‘god that guy has it sorted’, and then I realised he was made-up.

Everyone else’s life is made-up compared to yours.

You can sacrifice your family at the expense of your work or ambition or sacrifice your ambition for your family.

You can give up your health to be better at work or give up your work to better your health and you can sacrifice money for health or health for money.

There are no right or wrong answers, it’s on you how you decide to spend this time that you have.

What makes it impossible though is the firehose of information that you get about other peoples lives and other peoples brilliance which makes you want to be Andy Garcia for a moment before you realise that the best way to stay afloat when you’re wobbling is to concentrate on you and yours and forget about everyone else.

Who would you like to be?

You be that. Don’t worry if someone is richer or healthier or better looking or more successful (whatever that means). You stay afloat by being you not by being someone else.
