In the beginning, It's easy.
When you start and have nothing to lose, it's easy to be brave, philosophical, and full of values and do the right thing.
Then you move on, and for some, at least, they do better, and they start to collect things, the riches, the rewards of their success, of their bravery, of their philosophy, and then their values collide with reality, and reality is messy and terrible and unkind.
And then, in those collisions, they stop and look at the things they've gained and protected, sometimes casting aside the values, the philosophy, and the bravery that got them where they were in the first place.
That's what leadership is; it's a test of being who you said you were when things are not the same as they were at the start.
From a distance, everything looks beautiful, but in the middle of the sandstorm, not so much.
That's when values are more important not less important.
Fortune doesn't favour the brave; it seeks the brave out and pushes them forward.
Keep being brave.
