The Sentimental Anchor

Learning from experience is fantastic. It stops us making the same mistake twice.

Remembering things from the past, both good and bad forms our character, makes us who we are and forms our values.

These things are all good but they’re also a double-edged sword.

Being stuck on sentimentality and the way things used to be (even when they were super good) is often a fool’s game.

Everything has a cycle, and everything comes to an end. Clinging on to things because it was better the way things were leads us into a position where we can’t make forward progress.

It happens as you get older. You get used to the comfortable things, the nice things and the urge to stretch deceases.

For me, I want to rail against that. Just because it was good yesterday does not mean it’s the right thing to do tomorrow.
