The race vs the journey

When Mo Farah sets off on a 10,000m race in an athletic/ Olympic stadium he’s not in it for the journey. It’s 20 something laps as fast as you can, first over the line wins, finishing around about the same place as you started.

When Ewan McGregor sets off on his electric Harley Davidson to explore parts of the south and central America it’s a journey. Doesn’t really matter (within reason) when he gets to the end, it’s about what he sees when he goes through.

Really important in this day and age that you decide which game you’re playing, a race or a journey.

A race is a competition with adversaries and someone to be better than, a journey is a trip through humanity.

More and more it seems like we’re all encourage to be in a race for the bigger or the better or the shinier or the newer.

As much as it seems counter intuitive or goes against every sinew in your body when you get pulled in the opposite direction, I would suggest to lift your head up and see the journey as immeasurably better than the race.
