Tell Show Do

One of the secrets of delegation is the 'show and tell, show and do' approach.

Trying to get away from the show saves time and effort. You can assume that someone knows how to do what you're asking them to do, but you shouldn't.

Spending a little bit of time investing a little bit of kindness and effort in showing someone how to do the thing you would like them to do pays dividends over the years and gathers more and more value and momentum over time.

The opposite is abdication.

There’s a flip side to this, too. If someone asks you to do something, and you don't know how to do it, just ask, “Please, will you show me how to do it?”

Once we've shown someone once, then we've taught them how to fish so much better than just keeping on giving them fish.
