Sab 4.0

I first had a ‘sabbatical’ in December and January 2016/2017.

With a flourish I made a show of leaving my laptop and my mobile phone on the reception desk in the bungalow as I left the practice for six weeks and became uncontactable to leave everybody else to look after the business that they helped to build.

Two years later I had a smaller variation of this because I took time off clinical work to work on other things, most notably the building of the new practice.

In 19/20 we were trying to open and in 2021 we were still in the flows trying to manage the aftermath of the pandemic.

Last week though on Monday in our Monday meeting at work and after finalising the thoughts in my head on the bike ride to work, I told everybody that I was off again.

From the 17th of December until the first week in February I’m going to leave the business for everybody else and take some time to think about what I would like to do next.

I’m going to properly reconnect with my family (I hope), look after myself, train, eat well, sleep well and think well.

I’m going to do some high, high level work in implementing some real important strategy stuff for the business for 2022 and 2023 and I’m going to see my friends.

I said it back at Sab 1.0 that if I plan to work late into my life, if I can maintain my health then I’ll need to take breaks to reestablish where I’m going and what I’m doing.

It will cost me money this and the business money too but it’s always better to run out of money than run out of health.
