Over the past little while, my outside-of-work life has become a little bit dominated by the West Bridgford Colts Rebels chase for the league title (or otherwise, depending upon results).
And so, after this blog is published, we will have reached a crossroads, win a game to win the league or look for other people's results to help us.
When we get together right before the game to win the league, I will do the same chat to my players as I did at the Cup final.
See that feeling in the pit of your stomach, the thing that's making you anxious and nervous; it's not nerves; it's excitement.
Excitement makes you sharp.
Excitement makes you jump higher and run faster.
Excitement commits.
It's a good lesson to learn that we can reframe and rename, that feeling that we have if we want, and we can create a superpower from something that is paralysing us.
It's not foolproof; it doesn't work every time for every person, but it's certainly worth trying.
When you find yourself in a situation with a feeling of uncomfortableness of any kind, stop for a minute and take a breath, reframe, rename, context, and words matter, even the ones we say to ourselves.
