I was travelling to Switzerland last night and passed through security at Birmingham Airport.
This trip was delayed by some 3.5 years when I was supposed to visit the University of Basel in March 2020 to meet and observe one of the best exponents of guided implant surgery in the world and certainly one of the best institutions for video capture.
The person that Bea and I are meeting is Sebastian Kuhl.
He is the guy who was so kind to my son on a Zoom call in 2019, having a chat with him about how he had played Champions League football before he came into dentistry.
(There seems to be a theme with this because Rony Jung was a professional footballer before).
And so, everything is going well, and I've had the privilege of rushing down the priority security line past all the holidaymakers queuing up and getting stressed about going away. I get through security, and my bags come through with no problems. As I pick up my rucksack, my glasses fall out, and the right-hand stem has snapped off.
I don't have a spare pair, and I need to have them.
So, I am going to have to be that guy.
The guy who turns up with his glasses on with only one stem and looks like he has come out of nowhere.
I have lived my life being this guy.
The clown or the idiot.
The one who people think is a bit daft or a bit slow.
If truth be told, it suits me.
I use it as a weapon.
I would much rather be underestimated than overestimated.
