Last Tuesday the 29th September was ‘practical completion’ (PC) for the building site at Edwalton Business Park.
That is officially the legal point where the builder’s hand everything back to me and they have finished building.
It was a couple of months short of 3 years from when we bought the land and pretty much 18 months from when the spade went into the ground.
PC is not the end though; it’s just the beginning of the gift that keeps on giving but I walked around the car park on my own in the autumn sunshine just having a little look at what was there compared to what wasn’t there or compared to the derelict p*ss stinking burnt outhouses that were present when we took the site on.
God knows what happens next and god only knows that I probably would have never started the project if I had known what I was in for.
I’m proud of it though and I haven’t been able to say those words out loud very much.
I’m not just proud of the practice that we built but I’m actually proud of the ‘product’ that we delivered for the businesses that go into the adjacent buildings.
This place will stand the test of time even if unit 2 isn’t a dental practice and people will wonder about the story behind why it was built and it will set a standard for other buildings that are built locally around it.
In these circumstances you always imagine that there will be a huge celebration and a party to mark this because of the line that you have crossed or the situation that you find yourself in.
I walked around the car park for 15 minutes or so and had a nice look in the warm sun and then I went back to see some more patients.
