Endless possibility

A while ago, we advertised our 'no superstars required' job.

This will be the 6th appointment in that job that we've ever done since back in the day.

All four previous appointees stayed on in the practice for a huge amount of time.

They're not all there now, but they all spent considerable time within the practice, having started as a DFT +1, just to learn the ropes about implant dentistry in an implant practice.

The two that we've recently appointed will be the first that we've appointed at The Campbell Clinic, Campbell Academy facility.

These guys will now have the opportunity to work in a place where education and research happen side by side, together with the clinical work.

They'll be able to see the development that's happening and be part of it, be able to provide some research projects, be able to be involved in the teaching, be able to access the courses, be able to make friends with the whole of the team and see exactly what type of dentist they want to be moving on after the two-year term finishes up, whether they stay, whether they go, whether they change the world here, whether they change it somewhere else.

It's extraordinarily exciting, though, to be here and to help positively influence the careers of young dentists, to train them so they can leave and treat them so they won't, as Richard Branson used to say and then to give them dentistry because that's our job to give it to them and to see what they do with it.

At the start of next month, I'll move house for the first time in 22 years.

I'll move to a farm (only a very small farm), but the farmers say that you never actually own the land; you only look after it for the people who come after you.

That must be the same for dentistry, mustn't it?

The new Superstars project has endless possibilities to let people find themselves and the dentist they want to be, and then to take dentistry after we'd looked after it and to take it to a better place again.

There are endless possibilities to do cool things if you just lift your head up and see.
