It’s hard enough to grow old (er) but it’s even harder to talk about it openly. It was easy for Ian Curtis, James Dean, Kurt Cobain and John F. Kennedy.
For the rest of us our knees go, our skin sags and we get our ‘40 year old illness’; Some get reflux, some get piles, some get gastric problems and some get eye sight problems etc.
Any sort of coolness we thought we had we lose, although we grasp onto that like a drowning man on a life raft.
Our once pristine marble statues are damaged by tragedy and despair and can’t be repaired. It is for that reason one of the most important skills we have, apart from resilience, is the ability to seek out joy. That is the skill we should get better at as we get older. It’s hard to be brave enough to talk about getting older, but after 1300 blogs I’m older than when I started, and I will continue to talk about that subject throughout these pages.
