Stage Show

And so it continues and continues and continues.

‘Stop comparing your behind-the-scenes to everyone else’s stage show’.

I got an email today from a friend of mine recounting a story about an extravagant social media ‘personality’ in ‘dentistry’ (the dentistry is in inverted commas because it is unlikely the personality ever produced anything close to dentistry). The individual in question (I am told) is alive, well and larger than life on social media, very proud to demonstrate the rewards of their labours. The best people in healthcare, and actually I think in business, I have ever seen are never flamboyant and do not flash it.

Every so often they will stick their head above the parapet just for a very short time to show what they are doing for other people to learn and then they will vanish again to do their work. If it looks like s**t and it smells like s**t it is always, always s**t.

So the next time it gets to lunch time at work and the first thing you do it pull your phone out and tap on the social media icon (worst still doing that in your surgery) close the app! Call someone or have a conversation with someone who is actually a human, who is not trying to tell you how much better their life is.

Do not believe what these guys tell you as they strut around on social media telling you how successful they are and certainly, most certainly, do not buy into their world. ‘The race is long and in the end it is only with yourself’.
