Last year we ran a failure conference based on the principles of “Black Box Thinking”, a wonderful book by Matthew Syed, which changed the way The Campbell Clinic thinks.
This year we plan to run the Failure Conference again. This will be held in Nottingham. On this day the cost will be £150 inclusive of VAT. This is not a profit project. We will not make any money. Last year it costs us a little bit of money to put it on. It will be for 80 people and there will be 7 speakers, each speaking for 30 minutes on a chosen topic with 30 minutes for questions and answers. It will be about the whole of dentistry and other matters if necessary. Not specific to implant dentistry at all. It is designed to show the profession and the public that we are willing to learn from our mistakes. To make ourselves better and to be open, honest and ethical.
So here it is, first call (and last call) I need 7 people to stick their head above their parapet. We can help with logistics, presentations, audio visual, any of that stuff, you just need to have a story to tell and willing to share that you think will benefit others. It takes bravery and honesty but there are plenty of people that will do it and plenty that did it last year. I don’t want to do it again this year. I don’t want it to be the “Colin Campbell show”. I want 7 of my colleagues within the profession to stick their hands up. You don’t have to be the best at presenting, you just have to have a story that you are willing to share.
There is no fee for lecturing I’m afraid because its not for profit. None of us got paid last year. We can cover reasonable travel expenses, hotels etc. and obviously you wont pay for the day. I need to move relatively quickly on this as the date is November, so if anybody is interested in this, and some people expressed an interest in this last year within two weeks, at colin@campbell-clinic I need your expression of interest.
If we don’t get 7 speakers we will just can the date and I will ride my bike! But lets not get to that stage. As soon as we get to 7 speakers we will promote the day widely in order to get the 80 people to attend who are progressive and interested in being better practitioners.
